My object for my box is a fishhook necklace. My dad gave me this necklace for christmas 2 years ago, and I wear it every day. My dad is my best friend and we always go fishing together. He get me into fishing when I was very young, and it's always been a part of our lives. Last summer we competed in a fishing tournament together. This necklace is a representation of our relationship.
My box design is an outline of Fall River Lake. We own a cabin on this lake. My dad built this cabin when I was little, I remember helping him nail the boards of the cabin. This is where my dad and I fish and where we spend a lot of time together.

Reflection of Kendal Buster
Kendal Buster’s work is very light and elegant. It gives off a luminance that makes it seems as if it is glowing. Unlike Martin Puryear’s work Kendal’s does not feel organic. It looks very futuristic and expensive. It is not made out of natural materials and does not reflect nature. Her work seems to be communicating the essence of space and light. The pieces are all large and open, as if air could pass through them. I think I am responding this way because of the light color used throughout her concentration. With the exception of a few, her work is generally all white. The support is also visible so it gives me the feeling that the material Buster uses is very light and thin. I feel like I can pick up her work and carry it around. Or If I threw it, it would fall slowly like a balloon. The smell I imagine these pieces having is fresh laundry or cotton, because of the airy and light effect they bestow. When I look at the art work I see bubbles, ice, vases, paper lanterns and platelets. Kendal Buster has a good variation of form throughout her work. They are all clearly made by the same artist, but they all look different and give off a different feel or emotion.
Reflection on Martin Puryear
Martin’s work is very simple and abstract. It has an organic feel and a lot of his materials consist of wood or things found in nature. His work embodies an elegance that draws me in and causes me to question its meaning. I want to speak to Martin and ask him why he named the large smooth bolder “self”. I appreciate how Martin Puryear manages to makes heavy objects, such as wood, appear lighter. I think his work is communicating simplicity and life. I think the bolder titled “Self” is a reflection of how he sees himself. They also reflect humor, like the piece titled “Dumb Luck”. He references everyday objects such as a handle, a jug, chains, wheelbarrow, an eye, a building and many other everyday objects. I think it would smell like cedar or metallic. I imagine many of the pieces being smooth, and others being rough, he uses various textures. I also imagine the forms being very large, almost completely taking up a room. Walking around them would take several steps, but I feel like the vastness of the forms would help to add to the meaning. I also think the plain white walls in the background are very important when displaying Puryear’s work. If they were anything but plain the sculptures would begin to lose their meaning and effect.
