Reflection of Kendal Buster
Kendal Buster’s work is very light and elegant. It gives off a luminance that makes it seems as if it is glowing. Unlike Martin Puryear’s work Kendal’s does not feel organic. It looks very futuristic and expensive. It is not made out of natural materials and does not reflect nature. Her work seems to be communicating the essence of space and light. The pieces are all large and open, as if air could pass through them. I think I am responding this way because of the light color used throughout her concentration. With the exception of a few, her work is generally all white. The support is also visible so it gives me the feeling that the material Buster uses is very light and thin. I feel like I can pick up her work and carry it around. Or If I threw it, it would fall slowly like a balloon. The smell I imagine these pieces having is fresh laundry or cotton, because of the airy and light effect they bestow. When I look at the art work I see bubbles, ice, vases, paper lanterns and platelets. Kendal Buster has a good variation of form throughout her work. They are all clearly made by the same artist, but they all look different and give off a different feel or emotion.
